The Ascending Christ |
It was a long weekend then but I didn't plan for a weekend getaway longer than a day's trip; my travel buddy can't get away beyond a day and I don't have enough courage yet to go solo so I settled on another road trip, this time in Lucban, Quezon to visit Kamay ni Hesus Shrine.
Kamay ni Hesus Shrine is a healing center built under the initiative of Father Joseph "Joey" Ayala Faller, a gifted and well-known healing priest. A healing mass was conducted at the Kamay ni Hesus Chapel every Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:30AM.

This Shrine may be known for the healing masses but it has also become a popular tourist and field trip destination nowadays. Even on a Sunday, a long weekend at that, several groups of students were having their field trip there, also lots of families and groups of people were there to visit the shrine; saw some of my office friends too, small world eh...hehe!
One of the highlights of the visit to this grotto is the climbing of the several hundreds steps up to the top of the hill where a 50-foot statue of the Ascending Christ was erected. I tried to count the number of steps going up and got 301, but I counted the steps not from a single side alone but by following the Way of the Cross so I'm not sure how many steps there really are. We asked one of the caretakers there who told us that there are actually 321 steps on the right side and 301 steps on the left, the difference due to smaller steps on the right side; hence, the more steps on it. But I actually read varied counts online so I'm confused, I guess you just have to be there and count it yourself. ;P

This road trip isn't my first time in Kamay ni Hesus. A few years back, on a Good Friday, I went here together with my family. It's too crowded then; lots of tourists/pilgrims were doing their Way of the Cross/Visita Iglesia. And it's too hot, I almost fainted (some others fainted actually) on our way up to the statue of the Ascending Christ. But I still made it, thank God.

Opposite the hill of the Ascending Christ is a smaller hill where the statue of Mama Mary looking up to his son was also erected. If on the hill going to the Ascending Christ are the images/statues depicting the Way of the Cross, the hill where Mama Mary is are different images from the scenes in the mysteries of the Holy Rosary.

When I was there in Manila doing my OJT, we planned to visit this place. It was perhaps not as well-developed as it is today... Unfortunately, it did not push through...
ReplyDeleteWould love to have the chance to visit this shrine and also the rest of Lucban... :)

About sa tutuluyan, may resort na malapit dyan (batis aramin, if am not mistaken) sa Kamay ni Hesus pero di ako familiar sa rate, paki-google na lang, day tour lang kase kami. :)

ReplyDeleteHi San Isidro Labrador! thanks po sa visit at comment pero di po ako nago-organize ng tour, isa lang din po akong galang tulad nyo. but if I may suggest, di nyo naman kelangan ng tour, mas cheaper kung pupunta kayo dun via public transport. sakay lang kayo ng bus to Lucena then from there, jeepney naman to Lucban, dadaan na po yun sa Kamay ni Hesus Shrine. :)
DeleteHi, may i know if how many hours maybe render going to Kamay ni Hesus from buendia terminal? thanks.
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous! We were on a road trip then, with side trip to Lipa City, so I can't say for sure how long was the travel time. But I think it would take you 4 hours more or less to get there, considering the traffic, transfer and all.

Kung wala, I guess the best way for you is to go to buendia at sumakay dun ng bus papuntang lucena. From lucena, sakay ka ng jeep puntang lucban. Check the instruction above. Thanks for visiting here.
Deleteilang oras travel to shrine ?
ReplyDeleteThe nearest restaurant I think is the Kamayan sa Palaisdaan in Tayabas (got a post about it, kindly check it out), mga 10 mins away siguro, kung may sarili kang sasakyan; ala akong napansin na fastfood pero along the highway, across the shrine, me mga tindahan, I think may mabibili ka naman food dun. :)
DeleteI saw a picture about this shrine on Facebook - and asked, where this is. First I got the answer, it's on a island of Indonesia near Australia... but then I learned the real name and could found it: Thank you for this very nice pictures and informations! Greetings from Germany from a Benedictine monastery.
ReplyDeleteHi Framichele, thanks for appreciating this post and for taking time to comment, I appreciate it.

Pupunta kami doon using our own vehicle. Thank you. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous! late na siguro 'tong reply ko and am not too familiar with the route too, we relied on my CP's map application actually. pero ang ginamit namin na route is from Lipa going to Rosario, (Laiya) San Juan tas derecho lang 'til you get to the first town of Quezon (Tayabas, I think) tas may signage, going right to Lucena, left to Tayabas proper, take the left turn tas derecho lang 'til you get to KnH. that's how I remembered the route, not too sure 'coz it's been more than a year. hehe..
ReplyDeleteSA SUNDAY PUNTA KAMI JAN..TANONG KO MALAPIT LANG BA ANG KAMAYAN SA PALAISDAAN?
ReplyDeleteHi! I am planning to go to Kamay Ni Hesus tomorrow. Is it ok?
Plano naming bumiyahe ng 12 midnight from caloocan to lucban.
hi Era! if you're leaving Caloocan by 12mn, you'll be in Lucban at around 3am-4am which is too early, even here in Manila so am sure the church is still close at that time. btw, please check out the mass/healing schedule posted above, if it's still the same sched, at least you'll have an idea of their opening time. have a safe trip, enjoy. and thanks for visiting my site.
Deletemay mga ma stayahan ba na mga hotels or pension houses for a night or 2 malapit sa shrine? kase baka magabihan kami dating.. kung meron .. may ma refer ba kayo? thanks
ReplyDeleteHi Anon! Hotels/accommodations near KnH are batis aramin and kamayan sa palaisdaan, around 10-15 minutes maybe. I've no idea about the rates and services so kindly contact them directly. Good luck! :)
ReplyDeleteHi pwede ba pet dun?
ReplyDeleteHi Francez! I'm not sure if pets are allowed, can't remember now if I've seen pets during our visit.
