Muchas Gracias - San Fernando City, La Union |
What's the best way to refresh after being exposed to sun's scorching heat? Going swimming is one but what if you don't have time for that? Then having some coolers, like halo-halo, will do; and that's what we did after our noon-time visit to Pindangan Ruins.
We were supposed to try halo halo from Halo-halo de Iloko but the trike driver mistakenly brought us here at Muchas Gracias instead. Outside, I was wondering if Halo-halo de Iloko changed their name. I've seen several photos of the resto when I was browsing the internet so I knew this wasn't the one I'm looking for. But instead of asking the driver to bring us to Halo-halo de Iloko, we decided to try Muchas Gracias; it does have halo halo too, anyway. Later, I found out from the owner/manager (I assume the lady manning the cash register is the owner/manager) that Halo-halo de Iloko used to be situated here and that she's a former part-owner of the said resto, may be that's why the trike driver brought us here. ;)
While placing our orders, I asked the waiter if they have buco halo halo on their menu. Unfortunately, they don't have; theirs is on a tall glass. Anyway, we placed two orders of halo halo and an order of bibingka. We ordered the bibingka (rice cake) just so we can have a taste of it because the owner/manager highly recommended it. While waiting for our orders to arrive, I took some photos of the restaurant's interior; and here are some of my photos:
After a few clicks, our halo halo arrived. It took some more time before they served the bibingka but it's okay, the waiter told us beforehand anyway that it would take around 15 minutes or so to prepare and cook it. And then after a while, here comes the highly recommended bibingkang galapong of Muchas Gracias.
I'm glad we ordered it. Muchas Gracias bibingkang galapong is so soft; it's not dry and it sort of melted in my mouth when I ate it. I'm not a fan of bibingka actually; I'd rather have kutsinta, another rice cake variety but when I tried this, I fell in love with it; definitely worth the wait! ^^

bibingkang galapong... sabali ti imas na! :) |
Halo halo is one of the favorite summer coolers of Pinoy. But summer or not, I do like to have it from time to time. Muchas Gracias halo halo is the first variety I've tasted that uses pastillas bits instead of sugar as sweetener. And I love it! It makes the halo halo tastier and creamier, it blends well with the ingredients, making the taste of this halo halo unique somehow, definitely yummier! So far, this is the best halo halo for me; better than Razon's and way better than Digman's (click the link to check out my post about Digman's). ;P

Unlike our experience in Midway Grill where I find the dishes to be just ordinary, our Muchas Gracias experience was great; I really love their halo halo with pastillas bits, love their bibingkang galapong too. I would definitely come back here, if and when I happen to visit San Fernando City again. But of course, I would love to try Halo-Halo de Iloko, too.☺
